Tune on BBC Radio this Saturday 27th August, Craig Charles presents The Craig Charles Soul All-Nighter: No Sleep ‘Til Breakfast - a 12-hour celebration of soul music across Radio 2 and Radio 6 Music, from 6pm until 6am Sunday morning. A lot of wonderful guests including Bluey!!

Craig kicks off on Radio 2 at 6pm, with his one hour ‘Soul Sampler’, giving you a taste of what’s coming up during the evening.
He then switches to Radio 6 Music for his weekly ‘Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show’.

There is nothing more satisfying than using your talent to help those in extreme need.
LOVE FOR JAPAN gave me a wonderful opportunity to be active and do something positive as a frustrated observer of a great tragedy. Working with this incredible musical cast for the tsunami relief fund has definitely been one of the highlights of my career.
I have thought long and hard how to describe this effort by leading and highly influential members of the international musical community, and the best way I can do that is to once again quote the late Mother Theresa of Calcutta… “We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.”

Though most of the world’s media are no longer focused on Japan, there is great deal of work that needs to be done in the Tsunami affected regions and to provide homes and provisions for the displaced, counseling for the thousands who have lost members of their family (In some cases their entire family) and medical help and therapy for those unable to physically and mentally cope with life.
The Japanese are a strong and proud people, but the scale of this tragedy has been overwhelming, even for this resilient nation.
I hope that this small effort done by all with much love can play a part in bringing some relief and comfort to a people deeply affected by one of the greatest tragedy in human history.

Gil Scott-Heron dies aged 62

Another star burns out into life supernova.
Be it as a spoken word artist, poet or as a singer songwriter and musician fusing Jazz, Soul and Blues, Gil Scott-Heron was a man whose life and works crossed many gendres and could never be pigeon holed.
He was a militant social activist whose command of language and rhythm along with his wit, keen eye on social human behavior made him an inspiration for generations of musicians, singers and rappers.
My saddest recollection of Gil was when he opened for my band (Incognito) in the 90’s. He was obviously not in control of his senses, yet he was forced to play by folks who stood to gain financially to support their own habits… I tried to help but I was ushered away. It was very sad!
My best memory relating to him will be buying a copy of “The Bottle” in the 70’s and playing it with glee to all my friends.

Barry Stewart AKA D-Freek R.I.P.

I was saddened to hear news that Barry Stewart (46) passed away on Thursday 14th April. Barry died of an heart attack on a bus in Manchester. He leaves a partner and three children 11, 12 and 19.
Barry shared lead vocals on the track “Too Far Gone” and sang backing vocals on our 100° And Rising album.
Barry has worked as a vocalist and producer with several acts including 808 State, Simply Red, Happy Mondays, Doves and young emerging artists.
He Taught and Mentored in his Hometown Manchester.
My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.
