Well, i mentioned that I posted this lot on Michy's MSN site the other day, but here again in all it's glory, some stuff I picked up over the past few weeks (don't worry, I'm not going to list everything I bought since the site went down).

The Gathering - Chez Damier & The Cru presents.... vol 01 (10") been getting more and more in to Chez D

Special Herbs 7, 8 - Metal Fingers resents... (some hip-hop beats that have been scratched and scraped and stuff...kinda old school, and raw tracks sorto of end right in the middle as the groove is picking up...weird).

Mind and Soul - Freeq Unique (Bugz In The Attic Mix) bruk beat gah-lore

Simply Good Music -DJ Sampler feat. tracks from Esthero, Roots Manuva, DKD feat. Donnie, and Aya - this is the shizz for shozz (get it!)

Journey's Prelude - Louie Vega presents Ursula Rucker (NuLife Remix - 12")

The Cleaning (LP) - Kon and Amir present... some ol skool grooves here, pretty tasty stuff (highlights We Are The Chosen Few - The Chosen Few and Microwave Boogie - Skip Jackson & The Natural Experience

Destiny - Martin Solveig Promo 12" (ruff vocals killa house track ah tell you )

Without Words - Natures Plan feat Ed Motta (Kenny Dope remixes -12") No comment, just get it!

Esperanza/Corners - John Kumahara and Martino (decent instrumental house, on the deep tip)

Slowly - Glenn Underground and Matt Hughes feat. Swaylo

Golden (Quentin Harris remixes 12") I Like the original better but this aint half bad.

ICU - Ananda Project -DJ Spinna Mix (I thnak the one Hippie Soul [again] for the heads up on this one)

Yemaya - Sin Palabras (John Beltram remix) good Afro house in the Osunlade tradition

This Is Your Life - Dimitri From paris feat Victor Davis (the DJ Afro Mix is da bomb)

Never Give Up/My Secret Place - The Nu Spirituals vol 2 - Nikos (some great West Coast house)

stay tuned for the next installment...

Dufster,

Well being a senior citizen around these parts, 'essential' is relative.

The Cleaning gives a good historical view of where da funk came from (actually it was already around when a lot fo the stuff on there came out), so to me that's an essential album (double, various artist).

From a dance music perspective, The Martin Solveig promo is wicked, got the "throwback" (today's term for old school) vocals and the track is just waaay too danceable. The Simply Good Music EP is a neo-soul dream of a collection of tracks, so that's essential (the Esthero track is sizzling, I wonder who got up her nose!...or what!!!).

To be honest though, I tend not to jump to conclusions too soon. Some tracks grab me right away, but also fade away real fast, while others simmer in their build-up to my acceptance, until they become part of me and then I don't want to give them up (I had to force myself to stop playing rad's Higher Ground CD, it just symbiotically got under my skin).

Anyway, they're all good, but not all essential. I'm going to live with them for a bit, and then I'll let you know
