Transatlantic rpm: a quick review

Postby froggy drummer » Wed Jul 21, 2010 8:40 am

The album is already available in France (released on monday 19th) and I found my copies in my box yesterday morning!

Really nice digipack, great design and colours, with nice photos of Bluey (only)

First of all, this has been the 1st Incognito album without any contribution from Richard Bailey since "Tribes..." and I must say it's a bit strange not to see him in the credits...Times have changed... (also the 1st album without Imaani since "Who needs love"...miss her too)

Most of the songs are co-written with Matt Cooper , Francis Hilton & Pete Ray Biggin; , 2 tracks with ski Oakenfull, 2 tracks with Richard Bull: "Your sun, my sky" featuring Maysa (+Gail Evans on b.v) & "Tell me what to do", featuring Bluey on Lead vocals, which is I think the 1st odd time Incognito song(5/4).

Good to hear the Positivity horns section again on 2 tracks: "1975" & "Everything that we are"; Kevin Robinson also on "Make room for love" and Fayazz Virji (+ Jium Hunt) on the songs arranged by Dom Glover: good to hear his trumpet again too!
Graham Harvey (keys) is also on 2 tracks: "Lowdown & "Can't get enough" (great Rhodes solo!)

At the moment and after 3 listenings of the whole album, only one track doesn't catch me much: "Gotta" featuring Ursula Rucker...but this may change in the coming days! My favourite ones are for now "1975" (awsome!), "Lowdown" ,"Line in the sand" ,"The song", "Put a little lovin' in your heart" (killer bass part from Francis Hilton!); "Make room for love" is really nice too (Tony's voice!...& great Flugelhorn solo by Kevin Robinson). I have to say that I wasn't a big fan of Vanessa Haynes's voice, but I must admit that what she does on"Life ain't nothing but a good thing" is great! One of my favourites too! Awsome solo from Matt Cooper in "Expresso Madurerira...

Really strong album, that will probably enter the Incognito top five!

Thanks for the great review Gilles! Patiently awaiting my copy! I knew if nothing else, just from listening to the clip that "1975" was going to be a killer! I felt the same about "Lowdown" as well and although I'm sure Chaka did her thang, after seeing/listening to the clips of Joy Rose and Mario doing it, I sort of wished they were the actual duet on the album. They Killed It!!!

I am losing interest. Not because the album is bad (it is probably amazing), but because the music industry with its last-century practices to release albums on different dates in different countries is making me seriously sick. Here is an idea: download release only, simultaneous release worldwide with a big-worldwide countdown, official internet release party that everyone can participate in, download uses lossless (=FLAC or similar) compression. After all, Incognito is about a feeling of no borders and unity and not exclusion based on origin. Is that really too much to ask? I am unable to enjoy waiting until the release when I know that others listen to it already without any substantiated reason.

= jealousy.

Get over it, it's nice to see other people enjoying the music.

aahhh...of course its jealousy  It's just so unnecessary when there is no reason to even create it in the first place...

There is always a reason.
You just don't know it.

I'd be really upset without the physical release.
I'm really excited about the vinyl release this time round. :D

I don't understand why people get mad or jealous about a later release. If you're so desperate for the album and can't wait a week, you can always download it while you wait for your copy (and then delete it, don't do anything illegal... ). It's just another album (and not a top 5 IMO)

Rockamora, you are right, nonsense like this cultivates music piracy.

Bought myself a copy in the downtownesque area of "Les Halles" in Paris on Saturday.

I can confirm that the album is a Masterpiece!
I am listening to it many times a days, in various occasions, with always a smile on my face!

Bluey, Thanks for enjoying our lifes with such great Music, great arrangements, great songwritting and great human feelings in inviting such talents on the records.

It has been a very long time since I myself have heard such a Masterpiece album... I consider this as an present for spending a better life, that brings happiness in those cloudy days that we are travelling to.

... For the future, I can help wonder how Bluey could do better than this, as the album seems to me so high.
Peace & Music from Paris France,
