ps. Harron is still not capable of spelling my name correctly (it's Stephan she uses when refering to me, instead of Stefan..) but hey... she's only on here for 10+ years  )

Oh well, it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz charts, so whether you guys are liking it or not, somebody is liking it!!!! Go Maysa!!!

I think the general gist here is that no-one is disputing Maysa's voice, but that mainly its the production that puts people off.

There's a few tracks on here that sounds good, but on the whole (like her last few albums) it's not for me either. :(

Probably because that's the market it was aimed at!

Exactly, I like to separate Maysa from Incognito and her solo career, and she definitively has her own talent (which I like the most from her earlier records)...but in this case, I feel that she is so capable of more than just standards of jazz, that she can deliver more than what she does on this record :P

Shadowilla, have you listened to the entire album because it's not just jazz standards. It is a mixture of her own material as well which those particular ones would be geared more toward Contemporary jazz or R&B.

Stu, you might have a point and that's probably the market it should be at anyway for this particular album.

Again, it's to each it's own! We all have different taste and different opinions! It debuted at #1 which is great and I hope it continues to do well which I'm sure it will!!

Interesting thing with this topic so far is that everyone within the States seems to feel a certain way and the rest of the world feel the opposite. Anyone keen to break the trend?

My bad, I know that aren't just standards, in fact I loved some of the songs that weren't standards. Maybe I expressed my idea in a wrong way. The bottom line, is that, for me, the liking has to be of the record complete, or in its major part, but with this one, I had the sensation that very few parts of it was of the quality that Maysa can bring. Is like DiscoStu said:
