Facebook is for people who want to tell you what they had on their toast this morning. There is no palatable, meaningful content.
Forums like Incognito's present an honest, real opportunity for like-minded music lovers to discuss what they are listening to and providing relevant background info..
Plus, I think here is more spamming going on at Facebook than in the spam luncheon meat factory. I want to call it Falsebook.
If you're into Facebook expect info in small, tasteless bites and endless pix of distant relatives you no longer recognize.... something ultra abbreviated like Twitter, and don't get me going on dialogue limited to 140 characters!

Love the Forum. Love the Cogs. Love the headspace.

Freedom to love. Use it daily.

Well Stephen, it's not exactly like that. There are lots of positive things about facebook imo too... Of course, a lot depends on how you use it!

i'm here too, regulary checking out the news and spamming my mixes around.
but I have to admit it's not that often as it used to be, since a lot of people are friends on FB already and
chet there instead of logging tinto the forum.
Jim mentioned it - posting youtube links on here would be a nice addition and would maybe attract more posting.

one thing that I think is pretty sad is that people reduce their post to just a couple of words/sentences. there are very little
stories about things that people want to tell. it's all gone very facebookish: one sentence or just some words - there you go...

times are changing!

Not so sure about that, Stephen. True, there is a lot of pathetic useless messaging going on, but you can't blame the format for that. Just look at the "Real Music" group on FB, initiated by our very own Imanuel (a lot of Cog heads there). That's a brilliant group and I get that same good vibe and excitement that I first experienced around here. But I think we can pull off both. It will probably change a little bit in terms of content and frequency, but, agreed, just wait til Bluey announces the next album ;-)

I dont believe people in FB who have, for example, 1.347 "friends" :?
I have a FB only for foreign"friends", and other, like say Jims, as a free site of my company, and dont accept "friends", only for marketing and information.

Yeah Martin I thought about that once... but then I realized that the majority of the friends on my FB page I really know. These are my friends from high school, college, mixed in with people I've networked with like musician, photographers, and artist. Most of my family I've reconnected with on FB. I would say about 2% of FB friends, I've never met or don't know.

Some actually have a mutual friend. For example, Evelyn Champagne King and I have a mutual friend. When she started her career singing, she met a musician in my home town, who is also friends with one of my relatives. But If I connect with all the friends I've known since the 80s then yes my numbers will be up there.

There's arguments for and agin both FB and the Forum; I haven't been on here much lately, and am only here now because I took that ill-fated early nap and woke up at midnight as if I slept for 8 hours!

Dialogue on here is not as open as it once was (some of that is down to, as someone said, a number of us having been here since the 90's...nowt much else to tell). Different bunches of us have met in the real world and I speculate that these "Real Groups" have chosen to keep their relationship going in teh real world and haven't found much need or cause for sharing experiences, music, whatever, with perfect strangers (and I am both perfect and strange!).

Other cliques are a bit spread out globally and either here or FB serves the purpose of communications bridge (not THAT kind of bridge, Danny :D ).

I've seen some really heated threads on FB (usually to do with the dying US house scene) where people go at it Body & Soul (quip)...those discussions run counter to the one liners and the "this is what i had for breakfast" post that are more the norm. (I've got a friend on FB who, since I started following her posts I
m coming to the conclusion that she's quite mad!...so its good for that...weeding out those who want to do the mobile post while on a city bus telling you about "the lady in front of me smells like a skunk, is big as an elephant and looks like a chimp"...WTF! Why people think that that kind of post would be of interest to anyone do not know...but you get, I guess, millions of them daily!

Real Music group...I Like It Funky group - there's a gem or two being posted on those groups, but there's just too much to go through for me...I tend to comment (usually positively) on things I already know...hit the "like" button on things I've taken the time to listen to and actually like...but I don't have time to listen to everything. One thing those groups have done is show just how much stuff is on Youtube as just about all the songs posted come from that source (I did one for Soundcloud)...

Hate to say it but while I'm nostalgic for the old days and the old forum, that genre is dying...like cassettes, vinyl and CD's before it.

I remember Dufster asking something about reaching a certain age and not moving forward with music, only listening to the familiar stuff from yore and anything new is force fed by radio...and usually not specialist radio either...well, aside form the force-fed by radio bit (Force Fed By Radio - the name of my new group!), I think I'm at that stage. I mentioned (on FB!!) that I've really gotten back into listening to music again, what i didn;t say was what music I was listening to...a lot fo stuff bought over the past 10 years or so, that came at me like a tornado, and then got shelved; music i never really listened to in any depth...well that's being rememdied (and i realise that i've got a ton of good stuff - mostly thanks to this forum's suggestions).

With that I'm off to bed

(PS it's easier to edit mistakes on a forum, not that I'm going to go back and proof read this post  )
